Financing Sustainable Infrastructures; A Long-Term Perspective

IAI, T20 National Co-Chair and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo are organising the Conference “Financing Sustainable Infrastructures; A Long-Term Perspective”, which will be held on September 7, 2021 from 14:00 to 17:30 CEST.

The leaders of the G20 countries have stressed the key role that infrastructure plays as a strategic asset to foster economic growth. The public sector remains the traditional source of financing for infrastructure investments. However, budgetary constraints and economic policy choices have led, in many economies, to a reduction in the level of public funds allocated to this sector. In this context, the realization of infrastructural investments requires new complementary forms of financing. In order to bridge the infrastructure gap, tools such as public-private partnerships, blended finance and green bonds can play an important role in involving private capital in the construction and modernization of sustainable and resilient infrastructures. Infrastructures that are solid and functional but also adaptable to changing conditions, based on innovative technologies that can reduce risks and catalyse investments by the private sector.

The event will address the potential and challenges to increase private financing in the infrastructure sector, including identifying new financing instruments to diversify the investor base and exploring the use of data and technologies to maximize the social and environmental value of infrastructure projects.

The event will be hosted by the Collegio Carlo Alberto.
